How I Clean My Guns

Image
Introduction: I'm someone who really enjoys cleaning his guns. After a trip to the range, I like getting all my supplies out, stripping down my rifle or pistol, and just spending a while getting everything nice and clean. Firearms are expensive, and even though I know that my AKs will function without a hiccup when they're extremely dirty, I would rather treat them better than that and keep them in nice shape. Even if a firearm can  function in adverse conditions, doesn't mean you should actively allow it to become so dirty that it eventually does jam. Regular firearm maintenance also gives a shooter a chance to inspect their gun for potential issues such as backed off screws, unnecessary wear, etc. For this post, I'm going to go into a few of the things I use for the general maintenance of my guns. Since I primarily shoot my AKs, I'll be talking about these products in the context of how i use them to clean/lube my AK.  Details: After shooting, on

My Experience with Firearms Training

Image
Introduction: I want to preface this by saying that I am writing from the perspective of a civilian with no sort of military background. It is one thing to like firearms and think they're cool. So long as you're being safe, a casual shooter doesn't necessarily need to go out of their way to get formal training that is focused on self defense. However, there are those out there that, for their own individual reasons, want to increase their skillset with their weapons. For those people, there are tons of places and people that offer firearms training.  Details: Like many, my first experience with formal, firearms-related training was the class I had to take to receive my concealed pistol license. The class was taught by a former police officer from the inner city, so there were plenty of real-life stories of defensive pistol use. It actually felt similar to a drivers training class, when they tell you all sorts of stories of unsafe driving in order to scare you in

What's Happening in Virginia?

Image
Source Introduction: Virginia has become a hotbed for pro- and anti- 2nd Amendment activism in the past few months. There are some big things going on recently and in the near future that I want to go over here. Hopefully I can do the issues justice and give you, the reader, a good overview of what is going on. I also am going to throw in some of my own analysis of the situation and how I can see things panning out. Hopefully Virginians are able to maintain their rights, and it all goes down peacefully. Details: The issues present in Virginia go back to November of 2019. Virginia held their elections and after which, Democrat politicians were in control of all three branches of the state government. This is an issue in its own right, especially given today's political polarization. Because neither left nor right seem willing to compromise, either side having majorities in all three branches of government can be dangerous. They effectively create a political cabal that wi

The Chinese People's Liberation Army

Image
Introduction: I'm going to start a short series of posts over the next couple of weeks, looking at some of the equipment used by some of the other large military forces other than the US. This week is going to be the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, but I'm planning to also look at Russia, Iran, and North Korea. I'm going to go over the basic equipment that is used by individual soldiers, as well as some of the vehicles such as armored personnel carriers, main battle tanks, and infantry fighting vehicles. The scope of the blog for the next couple weeks is going to be a bit bigger than just a particular gun or type of gun, but I'll get back to my regular stuff soon. I was also thinking of switching off between the big-picture stuff and the more nuanced stuff every other week. Comment and let me know which you'd prefer! Individual Soldier: The PLA ground forces consist of about 1 million active personnel and is the largest component of the PLA
